Guides, Testimonials, News

Highly acclaimed Yarlung Records has recently transferred twenty of their original tapes to 256fs DSD.  The first four - sponsored by exaSound - are now available on https://yarlungrecords.nativedsd.com.

The "exaSound Quartet" includes Sophisticated Lady Jazz Quartet (here is Bill Milkowski’s review in The Absolute Sound), Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 (here is Jim Svejda’s review for Fanfare and KUSC-FM), Suryodaya and the percussion album Smoke & Mirrors: Vanish. All releases are mastered by Steve Hoffman and recorded by Bob Attiyeh.  The DSD files, in 256, 128 and 64 fs are direct transfers from the SonoruS Series of analog tapes underwritten by Arian Jansen.

NativeDSD.com is offering a free preview of two tracks - Smoke & Mirrors: Vanish and Suryodaya. These tracks are offered free as Tracks 09 and 10 on the Just Listen label of demonstration tracks, in both the original 256fs .dff DSD, and metadata tagged 128fs and 64fs .dsf DSD formats.

We have arranged a 15% discount for the exaSound quartet that will be valid through November 27th, 2014. Enjoy! When you come to the checkout page, please enter “exaSoundYR” as your discount coupon.

Bob Attiyeh of Yarlung Records provides some insight about the recordings:

"The SonoruS Series uses RMGI 468 analog tape running at 15 ips, or Agfa 468 when we had it, with no mixer. We created these DSD files using the SonoruS ATR10 playing into Messenger preamplification by Elliot Midwood into the Hapi converter and Pyramix software from Merging Technologies in Switzerland."

Special thanks to Bob Attiyeh and the Yarlung Records team, David W. Robinson, Tom Caulfield, Jared Sacks and the people from NativeDSD for making these DSD256 releases possible. We at exaSound are extremely grateful to be part of this endeavor.
